Just want to take a momment to say a couple things about Jim Thornton...

Not sure how many of you actually know who Thornton is or have taken the time to sit down and talk with him but we are lucky to have him as a member at CFDC. First, he is the guy who used to lift in sandals and keep up with the Rxers, or you might know him from the guy that runs from exercise to exercise no matter how tired he is, or you may know him as the guy that is 20years older than all of us but I'm pretty sure most of us would trade our body for his. I'm just saying...

But seriously, His approach to life, not just CrossFit, is something that I admire and hope to emulate one day. He siltently and methodically goes about his work in the gym and the only time you'll hear from him is when he's cheering on another member or talking about his kids. But when you take the time to talk to him, he has some of the most insightful commentary on CrossFit and how it carries over to life and vice versa that I've ever heard, not to mention some great stories. As I've gotten older I've really learned to understand that I am a reflection of my parents and how my parents raised me and there is no better compliment that I can pay Jim than his kids are some of the nicest, most disciplined, sincere, polite young adults/kids that I have ever met. They are quick to say hello, they look you in the eye when they shake your hand, humble when they do a strict muscle up or hang close to 20 rounds of Cindy (sorry if you did more than that Alex) and always look like they are having a blast while killing themselves in the gym.

Like I said earlier, I hope that I can one day do the same for the next generation that he is currently doing for us, but I also hope that when I get older I have that fire to compete and put myself out there against kids that are sometimes half my age and do it while smiling and laughing yet wanting to beat every last one of them.

No matter what Happens this weekend, in my opinion, you've already won Thornton, but go out there and give 'em hell anwyays.

DO WORK!

Sirkis - Mar 19 2010 - 08:00 AM

seriously.....people think they are talented because they can drive a car with their knees while eating a cheeseburger. Our Jim is so cool he can fly a fighter jet with no hands, pose AND take a picture, toss a gang sign, and talk on his cell phone while in a school zone all at the same time.

http://dallascrossfit.com/users/james-thornton

Not to mention Alex can probably kick the regular guy's, that eats his cheeseburger while driving, ass.....with no hands, pose AND take a picture, toss a gang sign, while talking on her cell phone in a school zone, smiling the entire time!

I work with Jim's kids and I can say they are some of the most amazing kids ever. They are funny, serious, and humbling. They all want to show their dad just how well they can do a new lift or show him how much weight they have added to the bar.

Jim is amazing and his family is a direct reflection of him. It is an honor to work out along side of him and it is def a HUGE privilege that he lets me teach his kids.

Not only is Thornton a phenomenal father, pilot, athelete and philospher, he is also a phenomenal surgeon. In 2006 I was diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma on my nose. The doctors cut multiple chunks out until the bad stuff was gone (Mohs procedure). All told, they took more than an pencil eraser chunk out of the affected area. That afternoon, the best in the business came to close me up: Dr. James Thorton.

The surgery was a success and you can barely see a faint line where the work was done. Many thanks to James Thornton.

Flash forward to 2009 and I'm doing power cleans with this guy and he is killing it. You set a great example James. Thanks again.

We've cancelled our camping trip to Oklahoma. Rain & snow has stopped play.

However, camping has been replaced with movie watching, urban camping (read oven baked smores and tent pitching at home), along with......

AMA Supermotorcross @ Cowboys Stadium. Oh yes!

We might even squeeze in a family 10am Saturday WOD.

Crisis averted.....

Blood - I have your Brazilian Real for you.

Thorton was one of the first people I met in the early days of Crossfit- he was one of the original Roosters- I always thought- who is this guy with no short or shoes killing every WOD- humbling.

Thorton is so tough even Tolbert is scared of him....

Seriuosly- Jim has inspired me from day one as a father, husband and athlete.

(due to the ancient system here at the ranch I can't see the pic above for the WOD that has Jim I suppose)

Hunt, TX- Yesterday- active rest day- tennis (won match 6-2), canoeing with family,

Hunt, TX- Today- 3 mile interval run/walk, 7x7 box jumps (subd' with Austin stone wall) and 7x7 push ups. WOD 2- Tonight- 5 1/2 drive from 7pm-1am tonight with three kids under 7....green tea and multiple paleo snacks and Star Wars Revenge of the Sith on the tube...

See some of you at the 10am tommorow.

Just got out of all day in the OR and checked the blog-Thanks for the generous props-funny thing the sectional is next week! I promised Spencer I wouldnt wear a CFDC T shirt until I got through the first two workouts without a DNF.
At the risk of sounding trite-3 things I have learned

1) The single most important decision to be made is who you decide to spend your life with-choose well.
2)Pick a job that will challenge you for life and you will never get tired of going to work.
3. Your kids don't give a shit about what you say-they do however watch everything you do.
It is a big part of my life to get to work out with such a solid crew at CFDC and the Spencer,Sam, Dean, Tyler and Chase are just starting to show the rest of the Crossfit Community what they are about..

Trying to get sub-Chase. Strong work by everyone today. We learned what being efficient is all about. The weather is getting better, we are going to really blow the roof off this place this summer.

By the way, my 2 cents on Jim.

One of the best people you will meet. He is a man for all of us to look up to not because of what he's accomplished but in the manner that he has done so. Quiet, humble, poised, efficient. It is an honor for me to even be able to coach someone who has so much of his shiz together. Jim, thanks.
